SEA2/7 7:26 PM Colt Emerson (SS-SEA) [Last Word on Sports] - AL West Prospects Who Could Make Opening Day Rosters. Up until a week ago, the Seattle Mariners led MLB.com ’s list with 7 prospects. This was even after they traded away their top catching prospect in December. However, the Mariners another Top 100 prospect, making this the shortest list so far. There are no Top 100 prospects in the AL West who have previously debuted. Each prospect on this list will be fighting for a place on the big league roster with no Major League experience. ? Players with Something to Prove Colt Emerson – SS (Seattle Mariners) is coming off his first full season in pro ball. Emerson was drafted in 2023 as a 17-year-old. The shortstop has been one of the best hitters in all of minor league baseball over the course of the last two seasons. Hitting from the left side, Emerson has an advanced approach in which he reaches base often. The 2025 season saw improvements in Emerson’s slugging as he hit 16 home runs with almost 30 doubles and six triples. After a strong season in the field, Emerson has been able to quiet the doubts about his defensive ability at short. ? Emerson will look to find time on the left side of the infield. The recent will make it harder for Emerson to find playing time at third. However, Donovan could see time in the outfield, opening up some playing time. Emerson is also blocked by at short. However, the Mariners lack infield depth, and Emerson can play at either position on the left side of the infield. Emerson, albeit for a short stint, lit up Triple-A, and another strong offensive showing in Spring Training could allow him to make the Opening Day Roster. Gage Jump – LHP (Athletics) was an overslot pick by the Athletics in 2024, signing for over $2 million more than the value of his draft slot. Since going pro, Jump has seen a nearly 3 mph increase in his velocity. This, along with a top-end slider, allowed Jump to carve through offenses last season. Jump carries a lot of reliever risk still due to his unorthodox delivery, and an increase in walk rates upon reaching Double-A. However, his delivery creates a ton of deception, and with improved control, he could be solid in a rotation for years to come. ? Jump doesn’t have a ton of mileage on his arm so far. During college, he had Tommy John surgery, resulting in him missing a full season. On top of that, Jump has only pitched one season in the minors, in which he reached Double-A. Nonetheless, the Athletics are a young team with a ton of offense and could look to make a run for a wild-card spot this season. The A’s, though, are held up by their pitching. Currently, the Athletics have only one proven starter in their rotation, and if Jump takes a step forward during Spring Training, there’s no reason he couldn’t make the big league rotation. ? Sebastian Walcott – SS/3B (Texas Rangers) is the highest-ranked prospect on the list, coming in ranked seventh in all of the minors. His ranking comes in large part due to his future power potential. Walcott has elite bat speed and the frame to hit for 30+ homers with relative ease. An athlete on the bases, Walcott stole 32 bases last season but profiles to slow down once he fills out a little more. He’s been one of the youngest players in each level he’s played in and will be 20 come Opening Day. The Rangers recently cleared an infield spot at second base by . Walcott has also received aggressive assignments each season. He was 17 and 18 when he first played in High-A and Double-A, respectively. However, Walcott’s second-best tool is his arm, and moving him to second would underutilize his ability. Walcott will likely start the season in Triple-A with plenty of potential to end up in Arlington later on. Wild Card Tyler Bremner – RHP (Los Angeles Angels) The Angels have been an enigma within the baseball industry. Routinely, the Angels have aggressively advanced their prospects. Just last season, became the 24th drafted player to make his debut before playing in the minors, and could be the next. Before the collegiate season, Bremner was seen as a potential number one overall candidate, but struggled early on in the 2025 season. However, down the stretch of the season, he was one of the best pitchers in college baseball. This consistency and a three-pitch mix that could all develop into plus pitches could be the reason he debuts in LA. ? Bremner throws an upper-90s fastball, a slider with a 33% whiff rate in college, and possibly the best changeup in the 2025 draft. The Angels took him into mind that he could be extremely close to Major League ready. This, along with the Angels’ aggressive approach, could result in him being in LA sooner than later. ATL2/7 12:01 PM Michael Harris (OF-ATL) Zen And The Art Of Fantasy Baseball: Michael Harris II, My Own Personal Dukkha. My personal dukkha comes in the form of one Michael Harris II. I am sure Harris is a lovely person. I love watching him play, especially the field. And I have found his hit tool enticing for years, so in 2025, I would have been the one in your draft picking him in the 3rd round. The projections said the pick wasn’t unreasonable, he smokes the ball (HH% of over 45% for his career), and he has a surprisingly good Z-Contact% (upper 80%-range) for such a free swinger. Harris’s 30 HR / 30 SB upside is undeniable and easy to chase. Many of us in the fantasy community have also been guilty of expecting Harris’s impressive hit tool to continue to develop to the point that he is a near superstar level. I still believe that player is in there.
