One way they could do that is by signing playoff standout Walker Buehler. Manny Randhawa of MLB.com listed Buehler is a candidate to jump ship for a division rival and had the Padres as the most likely suitor in that scenario.

Max Fried first debuted with the Braves in 2017, and has been one of the most consistent hurlers in Major League Baseball since he became a regular in 2019. The Braves aren't typically big spenders when it comes to free-agent pitchers, however, and they were never able to work out an extension for the now-31-year-old Fried. With Chris Sale, Spencer Strider, Spencer Schwellenbach, and Reynaldo López under contract, the Braves can ostensibly afford to let Fried walk.
