The Chicago Cubs activated right-hander Hayden Wesneski from the 15-day injured list on Friday following his recovery from a right forearm strain. In a corresponding move, the Cubs designated right-hander Shawn Armstrong for assignment. The Chicago Cubs have yet to activate right-handed starter Hayden Wesneski off the injured list, but he is back with the team in anticipation of that. To his point, the team in Iowa is loaded. 7/14/24 | Chicago Cubs' Righty Joins Unfortunate Team History in Loss on Saturday. Unfortunately, defensive miscues were a huge part of this story for the Cubs, as they helped lead to the drubbing. Starting pitcher Hayden Wesneski made his own error in the bottom of the first inning which helped to open the floodgates. Wesneski ended up going only four innings in the game, getting saddled with 11 total runs. CHICAGO -- - Hayden Wesneski threw 6 1/3 innings, Michael Busch hit a two-run home run and the Chicago Cubs shut out the Los Angeles Angels 5-0 on Sunday. Wesneski (3-5) allowed a single to the second batter he faced, then retired the next 18 Angels to help Chicago win a series for the first time in five tries. "I filled up the zone and made them swing earlier than they wanted to," Wesneski said. Relievers Porter Hodge, Luke Little and Héctor Neris finished the three-hit shutout and Miguel Amaya added a pair of hits and an RBI for Chicago.
