7/11/25 'Rooting' for RB James Cook to get 'lucrative new deal he's earned' from Bills. The contract dispute between running back James Cook and the Buffalo Bills has been omnipresent this offseason. One NFL Media staff member is rooting for the Miami, Florida native to earn the contract extension he's been seeking. Dan Parr, NFL Media Original Content Editor of Draft Strategy, shared an article about one player from each AFC team to root for during the 2025 season. Considering the talent that Cook is in the backfield, in addition to his contract situation, Parr is rooting for the former Georgia Bulldog to thrive this season and buck the trend of not paying RBs a second contract.

7/07/25 James Cook gets respect in ESPN rankings, but insider lists concern with Bills' RB. While James Cook's future with the Buffalo Bills remains up in the air in the midst of a contract dispute, there's no denying he has developed into one of the better players at his position. Cook has earned back-to-back Pro Bowl nods after posting 1,567 yards from scrimmage and six total touchdowns in 2023, and then 1,267 scrimmage yards and 18 total touchdowns in 2024. Cook's ascension was further cemented in ESPN's annual running back rankings that are based on the views of unnamed coaches, executives and scouts. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Cook landed at No. 8 on the list one year after falling just short as an honorable mention.

7/03/25 Latest Update on Contract Negotiations Between Buffalo Bills and James Cook. An update has been provided on the latest of James Cooks' contract negotiations. Earlier in the offseason, it was announced that former Georgia running back James Cook would be seeking a new contract ahead of the 2025 season. Cook is entering his final season with the Buffalo Bills, and would prefer to be under a new contract instead of on the verge of entering free agency. Cook was in attendance for mandatory minicamp as well despite the fact that he was expected to hold out.

6/30/25 Bills' James Cook gets $15 million contract holdout update. James Cook still doesn't have a new contract. Would Buffalo really let Cook walk?

6/27/25 Buffalo Bills RB James Cook threatening to enter legendary status in 2025. James Cook is entering the final year of his rookie deal, and, unfortunately, the Buffalo Bills don't seem interested in finding a way to keep him around long-term. While their stance on a contract extension could eventually lead to Cook's departure, he could still ensure his name remains in the team's record book for all time. Cook, who has rushed for at least 1,000 yards in each of the past two seasons could become just the third running back in franchise history to accomplish this feat. Two of the greatest backs to play the game, Simpson and Thomas were perennial 1,000-yard rushers for the Bills.

6/26/25 Buffalo Bills urged to extend offensive starter, but not the one you think. The Buffalo Bills came to terms with multiple players on massive extensions this offseason. What they haven't done is extend James Cook. While most analysts believe that should be their next move, ESPN's Aaron Schatz has a different extension in mind. Schatz identified one final move for all 32 teams this offseason, saying the Bills need to extend guard David Edwards.

6/21/25 Why James Cook's contract controversy isn't really controversial for Bills. It's beginning to look like an externally-fabricated controversy that may never actually rise to a controversial level. Running back James Cook, entering the final year of his rookie contract, opted out of the Buffalo Bills' voluntary team activities, and the alarmists were quick to warn of a potential hold out. Cook, however, silenced any speculation of bad blood between the player and the team when he showed up to June minicamp on time and proceeded to offer official media availability. Not only did he attend, he was a full participant, and Bills' general manager Brandon Beane is confident Cook will be present when training camp practice kicks off on July 23.

6/20/25 Bills' RB James Cook misses NFL Top 100 cut, here's why. James Cook has been the talk among the media and fans this offseason. The Buffalo Bills extended three of their players from the 2022 draft class, which included Christian Benford, Terrel Bernard, and Khalil Shakir. Cook wants $15 to $20 million annually on his next deal, but the Bills are reluctant to honor his request. CBS Sports NFL writer Pete Prisco recently made an appearance on One Bills Live where he discussed his Top 100 player ranking and why Cook wasn't on the list.

6/19/25 Analyst praises Buffalo Bills for 'extending most of their young talent'. The Buffalo Bills have been in the headlines throughout the offseason in regard to contract extensions. Obviously, the biggest talking point right now is James Cook, their star running back who has yet to get a new deal. Buffalo did, however, retain the majority of their young talent — and did so with team-friendly deals.

6/14/25 More to it than money for Bills' RB James Cook at minicamp. While looking for a new contract and a pay raise, running back James Cook chose to attend Buffalo Bills' mandatory minicamp rather than sit out and face fines that could eclipse the $100,000 mark. After declining to attend voluntary OTAs this spring, Cook showed up at One Bills Drive last week and even made himself available to the media. Although the 25-year-old Cook clearly had his bank account in mind, there appears to be more to his decision to attend minicamp and fully participate. Heading into the final year of his rookie contract, the 2022 second-round draft pick views himself as a "leader" with Super Bowl aspirations.

6/13/25 Advanced analytics show James Cook's value amidst contract dispute. It's no secret that James Cook wants a contract extension, with just one year left on his rookie deal. It's also no surprise that Buffalo Bills' GM Brandon Beane has prioritized the extensions of other players before the team's starting running back. It's a positive sign that Cook is at minicamp and participating in drills, but that doesn't mean a new contract is coming anytime soon. It's easy to look at Cook's back to back seasons of over 1,000 rushing yards, and 2024 campaign with a league-leading 16 rushing touchdowns, and understand why he wants to be paid like other top RBs in the NFL.
