9/02/24 Twins beat Rays behind solid bullpen effort. ST. PETERSBURG — The Twins’ bullpen has been reshaped in recent weeks, as they look to find the best group of arms to push them towards the playoffs. But for much of the year, Jorge Alcala, Cole Sands, Griffin Jax and Jhoan Duran have formed the core of the bullpen, serving as reliable pieces near the end of games. 8/18/24 Twins teammates rally to support Jorge Alcala after awful seventh inning. “I know he's tough, so I looked at the pitch-for-pitch with him,” said Santana, who was hitless in five previous at-bats vs. Yates. “The first game, I see his splitter — splitter, splitter, splitter, now I know it. So I don't think he wants to be throwing it this time. He'll prefer to throw his fastball.”

6/30/24 ‘A guy we’ve always believed in’: Alcala throwing harder than ever. SEATTLE – Jorge Alcala threw the fastest pitch of his career Saturday, a 101.2 mph fastball that was fouled in an at-bat against Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France. His reaction amounted to a shrug. He points out he's been throwing 100 mph for a few years. He won't even try to use it as bragging rights when chatting with closer Jhoan Duran. "No, no, he's my brother, so I can't do that," ...

3/14/24 Healthy again, Alcala trying to prove he belongs in Twins' bullpen. FORT MYERS, FLA. - As several relievers compete for the final spot or two in the Twins bullpen, Jorge Alcala stands out with arguably the most electric pitch mix in the group. 8/27/23 Twins hoping to get a number of key contributors back in September. 5/12/21 Abreu, Grandal homer, White Sox top Twins 9-3.

CHICAGO (AP) — José Abreu hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the sixth inning and the Chicago White Sox won their fourth straight, 9-3 over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night.

Abreu went deep to left center on the first pitch he saw from Jorge Alcala (0-1) for his seventh homer. He narrowly missed another one in the third when Max Kepler reached over the right-center wall to catch Abreu's drive. The AL MVP had two hits and scored three runs.

Yasmani Grandal lofted a three-run homer in the second for first-place Chicago.

It was just the sixth multi-homer game for the White Sox, who are missing slugging young outfielders Eloy Jiménez and Luis Robert with long-term injuries.

No matter. The White Sox are rolling.

“I'm getting spoiled,” manager Tony La Russa said. “We're going every night. Our offense up and down the lineup did the job. Then the big outs by the bullpen.”

Garrett Crochet (1-2), the second of five Chicago relievers, worked two-thirds of an inning for his first career win. The 6-foot-6 lefty was reinstated from the IL last Friday after recovering from an upper back strain.

“I've been looking forward to this moment for a while,” said Crochet, who worked on his mechanics while injured. “I was ready to go on the attack from the moment I went on the mound."

Tim Anderson and Adam Eaton each had two hits and drove in insurance runs in the seventh. Leury Garcia and Nick Madrigal added RBI singles in the eighth for Chicago.

“That's what you've got to like about our offense, with the big guys missing,” La Russa said. “The way we competed through the eighth inning is a good sign.”

Jorge Polanco had a solo shot among two hits for Minnesota, which has dropped two straight and five of six. Nelson Cruz, Willans Astudillo...

8/21/20 Jake Odorizzi, Zack Littell both forced out because of injuries as Twins lose to Royals 7-2. After giving up the first inning runs Odorizzi had steadied somewhat to throw two scoreless innings before giving up a leadoff single in the fourth. The Twins later announced Odorizzi had a right abdomen contusion, meaning a bruise but no breaks. Righthander Jorge Alcala replaced Odorizzi, only to see infielder Adalberto Mondesi bunt past him to load the bases.
