6/11/24 Angels Sign Former Brewers Prospect to Minor League Contract. Continuing their season-long trend of giving second chances to former heralded prospects whose careers have fallen on hard times, the Angels have signed former Milwaukee Brewers and Detroit Tigers infielder Keston Hiura to a minor league contract. Hiura, a Southern California native, previously starred on the diamond in Orange County with UC Irvine. Hiura's college stock was so high, the Brewers selected him with the ninth overall pick of the 2017 draft. The abbreviated 2020 season saw Hiura take a major step back, however, as he slashed .212/.297/.410 and led the National League in strikeouts with 85 in only 217 at-bats.

2/19/24 After the fall: Tigers camp invitee Keston Hiura looking to slug his way onto the roster. Keston Hiura, the ninth overall pick in the 2017 draft, took Milwaukee by storm, slashing .303/.368/.570 with a .938 OPS and 19 home runs in 84 games in 2019. After his first workout with the Tigers on Monday, having been signed as a non-roster invitee, the 27-year-old Hiura reflected on his rise and sudden fall. When things started to go bad, you start to look back at previous swings, your old swing, swings that made you successful. The numbers Hiura put up last season in Triple A were very similar to his rookie year in Milwaukee — .308/.395/.565 with a .960 OPS, 23 homers and 77 RBIs.

6/16/23 Keston Hiura, mashing in Triple-A before getting hurt, is back to game action in minors. Hiura, who has a 1.074 OPS in the minors this year, could have been a call-up option for the Brewers had he not suffered a left knee strain on May 12.

6/12/23 Gunner’s Finally Hitting The Target.
14.4% walk rate. That stands out as the difference between young players, who have promise, and what Gunnar Henderson (3-for-5, 2 runs, 3 RBIs and his 9th homer) has done. Thinking back to when Keston Hiura appeared to be a top prospect. He flamed out with a walk rate half of Gunnar's. Gunnar Henderson just went through conceivably the most difficult stretch of his young career, and did it with a 14.4% walk rate. That's remarkable. Most vets can't do that. It's common sense: A player struggles and starts swinging at everything and spirals out of control until they're asking, "Is the whole team going to Golden Corral tonight?" as they stand in line for minor league meal vouchers. Yesterday, Gunnar hit the longest home run in Camden Yards history; it reached the street, then rolled to Hamsterdam. Since June, he's hit .458 with four homers. He has a higher OPS than Kyle Tucker, Schwarber, Jul-Rod and Machado, to name a few. In the last month, he's hitting near-.300 with a .265 ISO. To me, the most impressive number is still 14.4%. Gunnar sounds like a viking backwards and forwards, and you Cnut ask for more. Anyway, here's what else I saw this weekend in fantasy baseball:

5/12/23 Keston Hiura is crushing it (again) in the minors. Is there anything different about his performance this time?. Keston Hiura has 12 homers and a slugging percentage of nearly .700 in Triple-A. Here's what the enigmatic Brewers minor-leaguer is doing differently.

3/26/23 The writing was on the wall for Keston Hiura's Brewers tenure.
