9/19/24	Sean Payton’s stumbling Broncos would be innovative ... if it was still 2013. The head coach was supposed to bring a wave of fresh thinking to Denver. But he is losing games and confusing his young quarterback It was only last season that Sean Payton rocked up in Denver and set a blowtorch to everything that came before, labelling Nathaniel Hackett’s spell in charge of the Broncos one of “the worst coaching jobs” in NFL history. It would be nice to know where he thinks his first two games of this season stack up in the rankings. The Broncos have started the season 0-2. Push the timeline back further and Denver have only won two of their last eight games, with both wins coming over a team quarterbacked by Easton Stick. Through two weeks this season, the Broncos’ offense has laid an egg in four out of eight quarters. Payton, once at the vanguard of offensive football, looks someone out of ideas – or at least out of time. His offense is stuck in 2013, and is led by a rookie quarterback, Bo Nix, who looks in over his head. The advanced metrics this season put Denver’s offense ahead of only the awful Carolina Panthers, a team who benched their quarterback this week, in part, because they are worried he has trouble seeing over the line of scrimmage. 9/01/24	Los Angeles Chargers' decision to keep Easton Stick on roster continues to raise questions. Easton Stick has been given a long leash by the Los Angeles Chargers, for reasons no one can seem to figure out. The talk of the team's backup quarterback position took over preseason headlines when it was revealed that starting quarterback Justin Herbert had suffered a plantar fascia injury. As long as Herbert has been the team's QB, the backup position hasn't been a concern because, for the most part, it has literally been for a player to carry a clipboard. With backup Easton Stick commanding the offense, the Chargers' starters struggled to move the ball during their 16-3 loss to Seattle Saturday night at SoFi Stadium, reminding fans how much the team needs Herbert. The chemistry the team worked to build in Herbert's absence was noticeably lacking from the first series, especially with other key offensive players Joshua Palmer, Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins held out. The Chargers struggled mightily during their first six possessions with Stick at quarterback, resulting in five three-and-outs and one interception. Quarterback Easton Stick struggled to move the ball against the Rams' defense, misfiring on throws to his wide receivers. Max Duggan and Casey Bauman didn't fare a whole lot better. (AP) — The Los Angeles Chargers made a pair of moves Saturday, re-signing quarterback Easton Stick and adding free agent defensive lineman Poona Ford. Stick started the final four games of last season after Justin Herbert broke a finger on his throwing hand on Dec. 10 against Denver. He became the fourth player in league history to have at least three touchdown passes, a TD run and a completion percentage of at least 70% in his first two career starts. Ford appeared in eight games for Buffalo last season with nine tackles and one sack. He spent his first five seasons with Seattle and made 64 starts.
