A handful of notable Detroit Tigers minor-leaguers, including some with big-league experience, became minor-league free agents this week. Two pitchers who ended the season on the active roster, left-hander Andrew Vasquez and right-hander Trey Wingenter, elected free agency after being outrighted off the 40-man roster on Monday. Other notable players who are now free agents include: Right-handed pitchers Elvis Alvarado, Angel De Jesus, Braden Bristo and Rony Garcia; left-handed pitchers Sam Clay and Jack O'Loughlin; infielder Nick Solak; and catchers Mario Feliciano, Julio E. Rodriguez and Michael Papierski.

DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers activated left-handed reliever Andrew Vasquez from the 15-day injured list for the final three games of the season. He takes the spot of right-hander Sawyer Gipson-Long, who was optioned to the minor leagues. Gipson-Long made his final start on Thursday and was not scheduled to pitch again this season. 8/04/23 Detroit Tigers add solid left-handed relief pitcher Andrew Vasquez from Phillies. The Detroit Tigers have added a solid left-handed arm to their bullpen Friday by claiming Andrew Vasquez from the Philadelphia Phillies. Vasquez, 29, has no minor-league options remaining and will have to be added to Detroit's MLB roster. This season, Vasquez threw 39.2 innings of relief for the Phillies, posting a 2.27 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP.

5/27/23 Phillies' Andrew Vasquez throws his slider 87% of the time, but it's uniquely difficult to hit. On May 17 in San Francisco, in the bottom of the fifth inning, Andrew Vasquez stepped onto the mound. According to Fangraphs, Vasquez throws his slider 87% of the time, which is the most in the big leagues among pitchers who have faced at least 50 hitters. When Crawford stepped in the box, with two outs, he knew exactly what he was going to get. Crawford is not alone.

11/14/22 One-Time Dodgers Reliever Claimed from Giants by Phillies. Sharp-minded Dodger fans might remember lefty reliever Andrew Vasquez, who pitched in two games for Los Angeles in 2021. In his first game for L.A., he came in in the bottom of the 10th inning with a 2-1 lead and immediately gave up an RBI single to Brandon Crawford for a blown save. It was a bullpen game for the Dodgers, and he was their 10th of 11 pitchers in a game that eventually ended on a throwing error by second baseman Trea Turner.

10/03/22 SF Giants recall dominant AAA reliever Andrew Vasquez in slew of moves. Vasquez made his big-league debut with the Twins in 2018 but was optioned back to the minor leagues after just nine outings. Vasquez only made one more appearance with the Twins before he was traded to the Dodgers in August of 2021. Vasquez made two appearances with the Dodgers, striking out three of the six batters he faced, but was optioned back to the minor leagues and non-tendered following the season.

3/16/22 Former Dodgers LHP Andrew Vasquez signs 1-year contract with Blue Jays. Andrew Vasquez pitched a few games for the Dodgers in the season’s final month, and parlayed that as a free agent into a major league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays, signed on Tuesday. Vasquez will get $800,000 with Toronto. The Dodgers acquired the left-hander on August 31 from the Twins in a minor league trade for catcher Steve Berman, then was added to the roster a few days later.
