Moreno was activated Sunday after sitting out most of August and the first half of September with an adductor strain. Without him, Arizona struggled to deter aggressive base-running opponents, with Herrera and Del Castillo throwing out five of 52 steal attempts.

5/05/24 Diamondbacks' Torey Lovullo, Scott McGough defend pitching vs. Fernando Tatis. Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Scott McGough's high-and-tight fastball to Fernando Tatis Jr. in the ninth inning on Friday night raised the ire not only of Tatis but also San Diego Padres manager Mike Shildt, who said such pitches are “not something that we're going to tolerate much longer.” McGough said a day later he was not trying to throw at Tatis.

4/03/24 Diamondbacks run out of options in bizarre loss to Yankees. In a stroke of irony, Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Scott McGough stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning against the New York Yankees at Chase Field for what was his first at-bat in five years on Wednesday. A “pitchers' lineup” had been a light-hearted side conversation in the clubhouse Zac Gallen brought up Tuesday, however through injury, substitutions and two extra innings the D-backs were stuck with a hitter with no at-bats since 2019 in Japan. McGough was caught looking at a Caleb Ferguson fastball off the outside edge to end the ballgame, 6-5 Yankees. New York (6-1) took two of three in Phoenix, while the D-backs finished the homestand 4-3.

After pitching an excellent season in Japan, he signed a two-year deal with the Diamondbacks . He was one of Arizona's most effective relievers for a dominant May-June stretch. Things deteriorated quickly however, as he ballooned up to a 4.73 ERA, before eventually landing on the IL with right shoulder inflammation. Now, McGough is ready to attack the 2024 season, with some mechanical changes and a clean bill of health.

Drafted in 2011 out of the University of Oregon, Scott found himself on 4 different teams as he made his way through the minor leagues. Starting with the Dodgers, he was traded to Miami, selected off waivers by the Orioles, then signed a minor-league deal with the Rockies all while showing decent stuff throughout all his stops. 12/07/23 2024 off-season stuff: left-handed relievers in Free Agency.. Last year we took a look at both closers and relief pitchers that were available in free agency and the Diamondbacks could sign. After several years of struggling with a patch-and-glue bullpen that didn't stick, it was time for Mike Hazen to make some serious moves and improve what had been one of the team's weakest parts thus far. While it was always far-fetched to expect the Diamondbacks to make a splash in the relief pitching market, not one bigger or not so little free agent relief pitcher showed up in Arizona in February. When the February fog was gone, we saw Scott McGough, Miguel Castro and Andrew Chafin appear.

(Photo credit: Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports) The Arizona Diamondbacks placed right-hander Scott McGough on the 15-day injured list with inflammation in his pitching shoulder prior to Sunday night's home game against the Chicago Cubs. McGough struggled mightily in his last outing, giving up three runs and four hits in just two-thirds of an inning against the New York Mets on Thursday. McGough, 33, is 2-7 with a 4.73 ERA and nine saves in 63 appearances (one start) for Arizona this season. The Diamondbacks recalled right-hander Bryce Jarvis from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move. Jarvis, 25, is 2-0 with a 2.81 ERA in seven appearances with Arizona this season. --Field Level Media

7/31/23 Diamondbacks end miserable July with comeback win over Giants. Scott McGough was in control until he wasn't. McGough struck out Joc Pederson looking, then got to two strikes on Blake Sabol. The automatic runner, Casey Schmitt, was standing idly on second base. Anything — another wild pitch, a hit, a flyout or even a groundout — could have scored Schmitt and sent the Diamondbacks to a 12th inning or, worse, yet another loss.

6/01/23 Diamondbacks' Scott McGough adjusting to MLB hitters. The Arizona Diamondbacks signed 33-year-old Scott McGough out of Japan to be a closing option last winter. In his first save opportunity and third outing, he allowed back-to-back solo home runs to surrender a walk-off winner against the San Diego Padres on April 3. Fast forward to the start of June, and the righty who had not pitched in MLB since 2015 entering the season has the sixth-best WHIP in the majors at 0.94. “He's been on a great roll,” pitching coach Brent Strom said on Wednesday.
