5/03/24 | Rays shake up roster before homestand against Mets, White Sox, Yankees. ST. PETERSBURG — The Rays called up catcher Alex Jackson from Triple-A Durham and activated outfielder Jonny DeLuca off the injured list Friday afternoon, before their series-opening game against the Mets at Tropicana Field. Catcher Rene Pinto and utility player Niko Goodrum were optioned to Durham. To create room on the 40-man roster, right-hander Colby White was designated for assignment. Jackson was hitting .282 with seven home runs in Triple A. Pinto, who the Rays went into the season believing would be their everyday catcher, was hitting only .214 and lost time to Ben Rortvedt over the last few weeks. Rortvedt, acquired from the Yankees the day before the season started, is hitting .333. Source: https://www.tampabay.com/sports/rays/2024/05/03/al... |
3/25/24 | As deadline nears, Rays options Alex Jackson, Austin Shenton can only wait. With the 13-man pitching staff now set, the Rays are down to picking a backup catcher and a lefty-hitting bench player to complete their 26-man roster for Thursday's season opener. While they have in-house candidates for both spots in Alex Jackson and Austin Shenton, they apparently want to take some, or most, of the time before Thursday's noon roster deadline to consider external options. As other teams are making their final roster decisions, a number of more proven and established players are becoming available in some form, and it makes sense for the Rays to at least survey them. As of late Monday afternoon, that group includes catchers Curt Casali and Sandy Leon, and lefty-hitting infielders Mike Ford, Mike Moustakas and Dominic Smith, with more to come. 6/04/23 | White Sox Minor League Update: June 3, 2023. Box score link The Charlotte Knights led for the majority of the game, but after a ninth-inning bullpen collapse from Lane Ramsey, the Nashville Sounds were able to come away with the win, 5-3. John Parke started the game for the Knights and was able to limit the Sounds to just one run in his 2 2/3 innings, but he definitely seemed to struggle with his control, walking three consecutive batters in the first inning. Though Parke did get into jams in the first two innings, he ultimately got out of them without anyone scoring. It wasn't until the third, when Alex Jackson homered for Nashville, that Parke allowed his first run of the game. 8/04/21 | Jackson's 1st HR, Neidert's 1st win help Miami edge Mets 5-4. MIAMI (AP) — Newly acquired Alex Jackson hit his first career home run, Nick Neidert earned his first big league win and the Miami Marlins beat the NL East-leading New York Mets 5-4 Tuesday night. Isan Díaz also homered, Bryan De La Cruz had three hits and Lewis Brinson had two hits and scored twice for the last-place Marlins, who have won the first two of the four-game series. “We had dicey moments at times but they worked through those dicey moments,” Miami acting manager James Rowson said. “Our guys did a nice job and once again did it as a team effort.” Home plate umpire Stu Scheurwater ejected New York manager Luis Rojas before the bottom of the seventh after Brandon Nimmo was called out on strikes to end the inning. The Mets have lost five of six and are 8-11 since the All-Star break. Their lead dropped to 1 ½ games ahead of second-place Philadelphia. “This is a time as a team where as a team you come together as brothers and as guys that understand that we’re going to fight for each other day in and day out,” Mets catcher James McCann said. For New York, frustrations boiled over when shortstop Javier Báez exchanged words with Marlins reliever Richard Bleier after Bleier retired Báez on a fly to right that ended the eighth. “Javi is a guy that wears his emotions,” Rojas said. “I think he heard something that was said to him and he reacted to that. There’s no frustration to that. These guys fought until the last out of the game.” The Mets were limited to five hits by Neidert (1-1) and four relievers. “We have to put in the work with our hitters and make sure that they are going into the game ready and more aggressive in the zone, rather than expanding,” Rojas said. Neidert allowed three runs and three hits,... Source: https://www.chron.com/sports/article/Jackson-1st-M... |
