8/24/24 Former Philadelphia Phillies Catching Prospect Signs Deal with NL West Rival. Andrew Knapp, a former Philadelphia Phillies second-round pick and catching prospect, signed a Major League deal with the San Francisco Giants on Friday. The Giants slid Knapp, 32, into the starting lineup for their game with the Seattle Mariners. Knapp hasn't played for the Phillies since 2021. He played five seasons before he was outrighted by the Phillies after that season. Since then he's been hanging on the fringes of the game. He landed with the Cincinnati Reds to start the 2022 season but didn't make the team. He played a combined 16 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates , the Mariners and the Giants in 2022. The Giants announced on Friday afternoon that they have signed catcher Andrew Knapp, who played three games with the team in 2022, to a one-year, major-league contract. Catcher Jakson Reetz was designated for assignment in a corresponding move, leaving Knapp and Curt Casali as the Giants' catching tandem at the moment. Earlier this week, the Giants placed a struggling Patrick Bailey on the injured list with a right oblique strain.

8/17/23 Former Detroit Tigers catcher inks minor league deal with Astros. Veteran catcher Andrew Knapp signed a minor league contract with the Houston Astros on Wednesday. The 31-year-old was released by the Detroit Tigers on Aug.9 but found a new home a week later with the Astros organization. Knapp will begin his time with the Astros' organization with their Triple-A affiliate the Sugar Land Space Cowboys. Knapp played 70 games for the Tigers' affiliate in Toledo where he batted .253 with six homeruns and 12 doubles.

12/19/22 2022 report card: Garrett Stubbs. He led the majors in innings caught which didn’t leave much room for his backup to play. That said, the hope is that those backup innings are quality ones, which is why the team pursued an alternate option to Andrew Knapp after the 2021 season. They found their man when they traded prospect Logan Cerny to the Astros in exchange for Stubbs.

5/08/22 Pirates earn split with Reds in Saturday doubleheader. Brubaker went five innings (the Derek Shelton magic number! giving up two runs on three hits with two walks and nine strikeouts, but catcher Andrew Knapp was ejected and Roberto Perez was put out with an injury in the eighth inning, leaving Josh VanMeter at catcher, which effected Wil Crowe on the mound. Crowe took the loss to fall to 1-2 on the year, giving up a two-run double to Tyler Stephenson that got a big inning rolling for the Reds, and the Bucs couldn’t recover in a 9-2 defeat.

The drama, or maybe better said, foreshadowing began in the sixth, with the game tied at two. Pirates back-up catcher Andrew Knapp shouted out of the dugout on a check swing and was tossed from the game.
