7/09/25 Angels News: Start Of Robert Stephenson Throwing Program Didn't Go As Well As He Hoped. The Los Angeles Angels signed reliever Robert Stephenson ahead of the 2024 season to a three-year, $33 million contract, but the right-hander has thrown just 15 pitches in an Angels uniform since putting pen to paper. Stephenson quickly went on the injured list with shoulder inflammation and would later require Tommy John surgery, forcing him to miss the entirety of the 2024 season before making his debut with his new team this year. After working to get back to the mound at the end of May, Stephenson had an impressive 12-pitch debut, but it wouldn't be long until biceps inflammation would send him back to the IL just three pitches later. The initial imaging on his arm showed no structural damage, but a stretched nerve was found after that third pitch in his second outing with the Angels.

6/09/25 Angels Notes: Halos Make Trade, Unfortunate Robert Stephenson Update, Mike Trout Close to Outfield. The Los Angeles Angels lost to the Seattle Mariners, 3-2, on Sunday. After the defeat, the Halos made a trade to acquire a first baseman with some outfielding experience. The piece from the San Francisco Giants can provide flexibility and depth on the roster as there are currently mainstays in his two most recent defensive positions. Additionally, Angels reliever Robert Stephenson has no timeline to return in his 'rare' injury saga.

6/03/25 Angels Pitcher 'Devastated' After Suffering Yet Another Injury. The Los Angeles Angels signed Robert Stephenson ahead of the 2024 season, but he didn't make his debut with the Halos until this past Wednesday. After inking a three-year, $33 million deal and coming off of a 2.35 ERA over his last 42 outings of 2023, Stephenson's career came to a screeching halt after undergoing elbow surgery to repair his UCL with an internal brace. After 16 long months, Stephenson was ready to finally debut for his new team — but after 15 pitches, he has landed back on the injured list. “I'm kind of devastated, honestly,” Stephenson said.
