9/23/25 Cubs 3B Shaw says he's 'not concerned at all' about backlash for attending Charlie Kirk memorial. Chicago Cubs third baseman Matt Shaw insists he has no regrets about missing a game to attend the memorial for his friend Charlie Kirk, saying he had an invitation from the right-wing commentator’s widow and permission from the team to attend the event in Glendale, Arizona. Shaw says Kirk’s widow Erika texted asking him to attend the event, and that he was “not concerned at all” about any backlash toward him for going. He says he and Kirk lived in the same apartment complex in Arizona and connected through their faith. Kirk, a Chicago area native, would text Shaw after Cubs games. He posed for a photo with Shaw and Chicago infielder Michael Busch on the Cubs’ dugout following a game at Wrigley Field in August. Shaw missed a 1-0 loss at Cincinnati on Sunday.

But this recent metric has officially put that narrative to bed, as Shaw has suddenly become one of the game's best defenders at the hot corner. A post from Marquee Sports Network's X account highlights the fact that Shaw is second among all big league third

8/23/25 Cubs rookie Matt Shaw has stood alone offensively over the last two weeks. The Chicago Cubs rookie has been the surprising bat keeping the team's offense afloat. While the Chicago Cubs seem to have all but locked themselves into a Wild Card spot and have at least an outside shot in the NL Central race, they've managed to get in their current position despite the offense being mostly dismal since the All-Star break.

The latest criticism of Sciambi arrived earlier this week when it seemed that he was building his excitement toward the Milwaukee Brewers throwing Matt Shaw out at home before Shaw ultimately beat the

8/12/25 New MLB Pipeline rankings show the shine has come off these top Cubs prospects. The honeymoon period is over for a pair of former top 100 prospects in the Cubs' system. Last year, the Chicago Cubs stacked seven prospects in MLB Pipeline's rankings - but a combination of Matt Shaw and Cade Horton graduating from the list and revised assessments for a pair of other Cubs minor leaguers, the latest update has just four Cubs prospects cracking the top 100.

8/11/25 The Good and Not So Good From Cubs vs Cardinals Series: Matt Shaw Powers Up. For the second straight series, the Chicago Cubs were unable to claim a series victory, as they dropped two of three games against their arch-rival Saint Louis Cardinals. The Cubs only won the second game of the series and did so with an offensive onslaught that led to a nine to one victory. Chicago (67-50) is still firmly in control of its destiny in the National League wild card picture, but its chances of winning the NL Central, which looks so good just six weeks ago, are slipping away. The Chicago Cubs are off on Monday which is a travel day as they head north of the border to face the red-hot Toronto Blue Jays starting Tuesday.

8/10/25 Cubs squander Matt Shaw's continued hot streak in 3-2 loss to Cardinals. Cubs rookie Matt Shaw's home run swing Sunday, from top to bottom, looked far different from the first home run swing of his career a little over four months ago. “I think Matt's always going to be a bit of a tinkerer mechanically,” manager Craig Counsell said before the Cubs' 3-2 loss to the Cardinals Sunday. The Cubs offense had been quiet against Cardinals starter Sonny Gray until Shaw's game-tying two-run home run in the fifth inning. The Cubs squandered Shaw's clutch blast to lose the three-game series at Busch Stadium and drop to six games back of the MLB and NL Central-leading Brewers.

Former Cubs prospect losing ground fast in race against Matt Shaw Matt Shaw flips the narrative against former Cubs prospect in spotlight By Jordan Campbell | Share on Facebook Share on X Copy Article Chicago Cubs v St. Louis Cardinals | Jeff Le/GettyImages Share on Facebook Share on X Share on Reddit Copy Article For better or worse, Chicago Cubs rookie third baseman Matt Shaw will always be connected to Cam Smith. When the Cubs traded for Kyle Tucker last offseason, the impression was that the Astros wanted one of Smith or Shaw. With Shaw in line to be the Cubs' Opening Day third baseman, it made sense why Smith was the prize prospect in the deal. Smith not only made the Astros' Opening Day

8/06/25 Chicago Cubs Reliever Andrew Kittredge, Offense Stumble In 5-1 Loss To Reds. The Chicago Cubs lost their second straight game to the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday, 5-1, at Wrigley Field. The Cubs (65-48) found themselves having another tepid offensive game against Reds (60-54) pitching. Chicago managed just four hits and scored just one run, coming on a solo home run by rookie Matt Shaw. Shota Imanaga drew the start for the Cubs and put together another fine performance.

7/29/25 MLB Mock Blockbuster: Cubs Land All-Star Eugenio Suarez, Diamondbacks Land 2 Prospects and Cash-Money. The Chicago Cubs sure could use an All-Star third baseman. Rookie Matt Shaw, their current go-to starter at the hot corner, is a baby at 23, and isn't yet hitting at a Major League level, managing just a .223 average with six home runs and 25 RBIs in 238 at bats.

7/28/25 Cubs Still Attempting Trade for Star Third Baseman Despite Matt Shaw's Hot Streak. The Chicago Cubs have finally arrived at trade deadline week after months of intense speculation as to how exactly they are going to approach things. Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez is not only a legitimate MVP candidate during what has been an incredible season, he also just so happens to play the position of Chicago's biggest perceived weakness. It's been an up and down rookie campaign for Matt Shaw at the hot corner, and the streakiness has led to the rumors connecting Suárez to the Cubs.

The timing was almost comedic on Saturday night as Shaw hit a two-run home run during a pivotal moment in the Cubs' victory over

7/26/25 Tampa Bay Rays Veteran Right-Hander Makes Sense for Cubs. The Chicago Cubs have led the National League Central division for a majority of the season. It is no secret Chicago has some holes to fill on their big league roster. Third base has become a problem for the team, which is the major fix they need in the lineup. Matt Shaw is still young and getting used to the bigs, but his struggles at the plate overall have hurt the team.

7/24/25 Cubs Remain Active in Third-Base Market Amid Matt Shaw’s Recent Resurgence. After a slow start to his big-league career, Chicago Cubs third baseman Matt Shaw is gradually getting into the swing of things. Shaw is in the midst of a four-game hitting streak, during which he is a combined 6-11 at the plate with two home runs and four RBIs, and has seen his batting average jump back above .200. Despite this string of positive performances, though, the Cubs have not deviated from their plans to address the third base position ahead of the trade deadline, manager Craig Counsell said.
