The Colorado Rockies have had a pretty brutal stretch of seasons at the MLB level, as they have already clinched a franchise record seventh straight losing season. Both players have started off well in their limited playing time there, but Riggio has really started to find his footing quickly at that level.

8/06/25 Yankees Ignored Major Warning Signs About New Pitcher. The New York Yankees made a concerted effort to improve their scuffling bullpen at the trade deadline by acquiring three right-handed relievers, though it appears they ignored some major warning signs with one of those players. While appearing on the "Foul Territory" podcast, Newsday's Erik Boland revealed that there was some concern around the league regarding Jake Bird's longevity this season after the Colorado Rockies essentially overworked him earlier in the year. “There were probably 20 teams looking for bullpen help before the trade deadline,” Boland said.

8/05/25 New York Yankees Wave White Flag, Send Trade Deadline Acquisition to Minors. The New York Yankees have optioned right-handed pitcher Jake Bird to Triple-A Scranton/Walkes-Barre, the club announced Tuesday morning. Bird was one of the Yankees' headlining acquisitions at last week's trade deadline. New York gave up second baseman Roc Riggio and left-handed pitcher Ben Shields – their No. 11 and No. 27 prospects, respectively – to pry Bird away from the Colorado Rockies. The 29-year-old righty has made three appearances in pinstripes, allowing four hits, two walks, two home runs, six earned runs and seven total runs in 2.0 innings. He got credited with the loss Monday night against the Texas Rangers, blowing up in the bottom of the 10th. Bringing in Bird alongside Pittsburgh

8/02/25 Yankees' Aaron Boone credits 'Melatonin' for moving past brutal loss to Marlins. The New York Yankees suffered one of their most crushing losses of the 2025 season on Friday night, falling 13-12 to the Miami Marlins via a chaotic walk-off at loanDepot park. After building leads of 6-0, 9-4, and 12-10, New York watched each one slip away in stunning fashion. Particularly concerning was the performance of the Yankees' newly acquired bullpen trio. Jake Bird, David Bednar, and Camilo Doval — all added at the trade deadline to stabilize the late innings — combined to allow 9 earned runs across just 2.1 innings, contributing heavily to the unraveling.

7/31/25 Rockies Send Two Relief Pitchers to Mets in Hypothetical Trade Proposal. With the trade deadline quickly approaching for the Colorado Rockies, the team is going to potentially be very active as a seller. It has been a highly disappointing season for the Rockies in 2025, who are currently residing in last place. Despite the overall struggles, the team is going to be focused on building for the future, which makes the trade deadline a very important time to get prospects in return for some of the veterans. Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report recently wrote about a trade proposal for the Rockies in which they send two of their top relievers, Jake Bird and Jimmy Herget, to the New York Mets in exchange for pitching prospects Blade Tidwell and Dylan Ross.
