The Detroit Tigers announced last week that they had released two former Los Angeles Dodgers players in infielder Eddys Leonard and right-hander Ricky Vanasco. Leonard, who signed with the Dodgers in 2017, has spent the majority of his career in the Dodgers' minor league system. The 24-year-old shortstop progressed through the minor leagues to Double-A Tulsa in 2023, where he slashed .254/.327/.411 with 89 hits, 37 runs, 11 home runs, and 44 RBIs. Eddys Leonard began 2023 as a Dodgers shortstop in Double-A Tulsa and ended it playing several positions in Triple-A Toledo as a member of the Tigers organization. Leonard and fellow then-High-A middle infielder Jorbit Vivas were aggressive additions to the Dodgers' 40-man roster in November 2021, to avoid potentially losing them in a Rule 5 Draft that never came, though nobody knew the draft would be canceled (a casualty of the lockout) at the time. Leonard's second year on the 40-man roster got off to a terrible start, with no extra-base hits in 20 games in April with Double-A Tulsa while hitting just .129 (9-for-70 with 10 walks).
