9/05/25 Diamondbacks transfer Pavin Smith to 60-day IL. Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman and designated hitter Pavin Smith's season is over as the team transferred him to the 60-day injured list with a strained left quad on Friday. The Diamondbacks also announced the team claimed right-handed pitcher Elvin Rodriguez off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles and optioned him to Triple-A Reno. Smith's 2025 has been plagued by injuries throughout the second half of season. Smith would play in seven games before being put on the injured list again with a quad strain he suffered in a game on Aug. 27 against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Pavin Smith is “trending toward” missing the remainder of the 2025 season due to a quad injury, manager Torey Lovullo told the pregame radio show on Saturday. Smith landed on the 10-day injured list Friday with a left quad strain he suffered on Wednesday at the Milwaukee Brewers. If he is indeed done, Smith will have played eight games after the All-Star break this season.

8/28/25 Diamondbacks expected to make injury move. The Arizona Diamondbacks are hoping to stay afloat in the National League Wild Card conversation. However, the team is expected to lose a key player to the injured list soon, according to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com. “ Pavin Smith likely headed to the IL. Will head back to Phoenix for imaging on injured quad. No roster move today. Probably one when @Dbacks get to LA,” Gilbert wrote on X, formerly Twitter. Smith, 29, has split his time between first base and designated hitter for Arizona in 2025. The Diamondbacks veteran is hitting .258/.362/.434 across 87 games played this season. He has also recorded eight home runs and 17 doubles. Smith has displayed intriguing signs of potential in the past.

Infielders Pavin Smith and Ildemaro Vargas were activated off the Arizona Diamondbacks' 10-day injured list on Monday, and they replace outfielder Jorge Barrosa and infielder Connor Kaiser on the roster. Smith has been away since July 6 with a strained oblique, while Vargas has been out since June 25 after a pitch fractured his foot. In 79 games, Smith is slashing .262/.371/.446 with 28 RBIs, 40 walks and 84 strikeouts.

7/06/25 Diamondbacks place Pavin Smith on IL, select Tristin English. The Arizona Diamondbacks placed designated hitter Pavin Smith on the 10-day injured list with a strained right oblique on Sunday. Arizona selected the contract of first baseman/outfielder Tristin English from Triple-A Reno to fill his spot on the active roster. To create a 40-man roster spot, Arizona recalled left-hander Tommy Henry and placed him on the 60-day IL (elbow surgery). Smith has played 79 games this season, starting regularly against right-handed pitching as Joc Pederson had done last year before leaving in free agency.

4/23/25 Diamondbacks seek continued consistency in matchup vs. Rays. The Arizona Diamondbacks have found the offensive consistency that the Tampa Bay Rays have been missing recently. With Pavin Smith getting two more extra-base hits, the Diamondbacks won the first game of a three-game series between the two teams on Tuesday and will look for their eighth victory in the past 10 games on Wednesday night. Arizona has scored at least five runs in six of their seven wins during the stretch. Smith has six extra-base hits in the last six games -- three homers and three doubles -- and his two-run homer in the third inning gave the Diamondbacks a lead they never lost in a 5-1 win over Tampa Bay on Tuesday.

Pavin Smith has come a long way since his original drafting by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 1st round of the 2017 draft. The Arizona Diamondbacks' lineup on Sunday against the Brewers had a few quirks with multiple starters on the bench, including Pavin Smith taking over the lead-off spot against Milwaukee right-hander Frankie Montas. Smith will start in right field, as Corbin Carroll was out of the batting order for the first time since Aug. 17. First baseman Christian Walker was also absent from the starting nine, giving way for Josh Bell to make his first start in a week.
