8/30/25 Nationals place LHP MacKenzie Gore (shoulder) on 15-day IL. August 30 - The Washington Nationals placed All-Star left-hander MacKenzie Gore on the 15-day injured list Saturday with inflammation in his pitching shoulder. Right-hander Mason Thompson was recalled from Triple-A Rochester to take the roster spot of Gore, who has struggled mightily since pitching in the All-Star Game last month. Gore is 1-5 in his last eight outings to fall to 5-13 with a 4.15 ERA on the season. Gore, 26, is 26-39 with a 4.19 ERA in 102 career appearances (99 starts) with the Nationals and the San Diego Padres. He was selected by the Padres with the third overall pick of the 2017 MLB Draft before being traded as part of the blockbuster Juan Soto deal on Aug. 2, 2022. Thompson,

8/25/25 Miguel Cairo's Comments Create Cloudy Future for Struggling Nationals Pitcher. The Washington Nationals have not gotten good performances on the mound this season. Outside of MacKenzie Gore, who put together an All-Star campaign in the first half and has kept his strong season going, there are not a whole lot of pitchers in the mix that anyone could point to as the future of this franchise. Cade Cavalli's return does give more optimism about finding a starter to put behind Gore, and the emergence of Brad Lord has been a great development, even if he has struggled when going through the order a third time. DJ Herz had to undergo Tommy John surgery as well.

8/19/25 Rising Superstar Predicted To Be Face of Nationals Franchise in 2028. This season has been a disappointment for the Washington Nationals overall. It hasn't all been negative for Washington this season, though. In the midst of the overall disappointment, it's been great to see MacKenzie Gore turn into a bona fide ace and CJ Abrams follow up his All-Star campaign last year with another solid showing.

8/16/25 MacKenzie Gore's Last Two Starts Prove Nationals Decision To Keep Him Wise. MacKenzie Gore was a starting pitcher that the Washington Nationals were seriously considering parting ways with at the trade deadline. In his last two games, he has faced both the Philadelphia Phillies and the San Francisco Giants- a pair of teams having far better years than the Nationals this year. In that time, he has gone 1-0, pitched 12 full innings, struck out 17 batters, walked three, and had two earned runs. The 26-year-old still has a lot of time left in professional baseball as he only made his debut back in April of 2022 with the San Diego Padres before he was traded in a block buster deal that sent him to the Nationals.

8/08/25 Nationals Pitching Struggles Could Open the Door for Top Arms in the System. The Washington Nationals have had trouble on the mound this season to say the least. The Nats sit at least fifth-worst in many major categories, including ERA (second-worst), opponents' batting average (also second-worst, and number of strikeouts (fifth least). Clearly, what they have been doing isn't working, and they just cleaned house at the trade deadline with basically everybody, but MacKenzie Gore. Gore is definitely one of their best starters, but his numbers on the season aren't exactly great.

8/08/25 Nationals Successfully Restock Minor League System With MLB Trade Deadline Deals. The Washington Nationals were one of the few teams that were clear-cut sellers ahead of the MLB trade deadline, looking to move as many veterans as possible in exchange for prospect capital. There weren't any blockbuster trades to be made, especially with the Nationals only listening and seemingly not seriously engaging in any trade negotiations that involved their ace, MacKenzie Gore. All in all, Washington traded utilityman Amed Rosario, outfielder Alex Call, closer Kyle Finnegan, starting pitcher Michael Soroka and relief pitchers Andrew Chafin and Luis Garcia.

8/07/25 MacKenzie Gore Wisely Seen as Player Nationals Could Trade Before Next Season. As the Washington Nationals continue to limp through the second half of the season, the team will be thinking about what the offseason plan is going to look like. At the trade deadline, the Nationals made the wise decision to be sellers and move some of their desirable assets. The team nearly gutted the roster of all of their veterans on expiring deals and has restocked the farm system. Due to some of that talent not being the best, Washington didn't bring back premier prospects, but they received some good players.

8/06/25 [The Score] - Nationals' Gore after blowout loss to A's: 'This is embarrassing'. Washington Nationals ace MacKenzie Gore didn't hold back his feelings after one of the worst starts of his career during Tuesday's 16-7 loss to the Athletics. The Nationals lost their sixth straight game, with four of those coming at home, after Gore allowed eight earned runs on 12 hits in three innings. He didn't strike out a hitter for the first time in his career."Not good," Gore said, according to MLB.com's Jessica Camerato. "It was bad. What, I gave up eight runs? It's kind of the only way to put it - that it was bad."Washington allowed 70 runs during its six-game losing streak and have been outscored by 33 runs in the last four games of its homestand against the Milwaukee Brewers and A's. The club enters Wednesday 22 games under .500 with a minus-143 run differential."This is embarrassing," Gore said. "We shouldn't just try to act like nothing happened here. What's happened in this homestand is not acceptable. No matter what happened last week, we're all better than this. This is embarrassing. We’ve got to be able to not let it affect everybody. We’ve got to be able to come together as a group and get better. But yeah, what happened this homestand, it’s hard to watch.”

8/06/25 MacKenzie Gore blasts 'embarrassing' Nationals amid nightmare homestand. Instead of progressing forward in their rebuild, the Washington Nationals appear to have done nothing but take a step back in 2025. On Tuesday night, the Nationals fell to 44-68 on the year after being on the receiving end of a 16-7 beatdown from the Athletics. This is nothing but a continuation of their poor play as of late, and starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore, who surrendered eight earned runs on 12 hits on Tuesday night, couldn't be any more frustrated. Following the Nationals' defeat to the Athletics, Gore went out and expressed just how irate he was over his and his team's performance during this current homestand of theirs thus far (which has spanned the past four games).
