When the Los Angeles Rams signed Jimmy Garoppolo to a new contract during the offseason, it turned more than a few heads. At least at the time, the Rams were still being linked to Aaron Rodgers as a free agent and were widely expected to trade away Matthew Stafford if the two sides couldn't agree to a deal. Would the Rams have really rolled with the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback as their guy if Stafford left and Rodgers didn't work out? 7/26/25	Don't expect to see Rams stars in preseason games. The Los Angeles Rams are well underway at training camp, and preseason is quickly approaching. Head coach Sean McVay says to expect a "similar approach" to last season where Stafford and Jimmy Garoppolo didn't play in the preseason. “Looking towards the preseason, expect us to take a similar approach in regard to Jimmy who will probably not play and that'll give Stetson a chance," McVay said via DaSilva. They don't need a great quarterback to go to the Super Bowl -- they proved that with Jimmy Garoppolo and Brock Purdy. But, they do need a great running back. That's what Raheem Mostert was in 2019, and it's what Christian McCaffrey was in 2023. Now, McCaffrey is 29 -- he might not be great anymore. Many veteran quarterbacks have come, failed and gone over Las Vegas Raiders team history, and that list includes Jimmy Garoppolo, who spent just one season with the franchise. Garoppolo was signed in 2023 during the Dave Ziegler-Josh McDaniels era to be the quick fix under center. Unfortunately, that did not pan out and Jimmy G was benched after six games and the firing of McDaniels.
