8/15/25 Jhoan Duran injury update: Phillies closer carted off after taking ball off leg. Jhoan Dura´n, one of the prized acquisitions at Major League Baseball's trade deadline and the much-needed closer for the Philadelphia Phillies, was struck by a batted ball on his right ankle and taken off the field on a bullpen cart in the ninth inning of their Aug. 15 game. Dura´n, entering with a 6-2 lead against the Washington Nationals, took a one-hopper off the bat of the Nationals' Paul DeJong – exit velocity, 94.1 mph – and tried to retrieve the ball as it bounced toward the first base line.

6/15/25 Washington Nationals Slugger Could Start Injury Rehab Assignment Next Week. Two months after suffering a scary injury to his face, Washington Nationals third baseman Paul DeJong is close to returning to live action. The 30-year-old is waiting to get the go-ahead for an injury rehab assignment next week after he hit live pitching for the first time on Wednesday since he suffered a fractured nose on April 15. After that, manager Dave Martinez said the organization will discuss the next steps before sending DeJong out for a rehab stint. The Triple-A Rochester Red Wings are in Pennsylvania next week to face the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, the affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Washington Nationals infielder Paul DeJong, sidelined since his nose was broken by a pitch in mid-April, is taking batting practice and could soon start a minor league rehab assignment. DeJong took BP on Wednesday with a face protector flap and hit against right-hander Derek Law in a simulated game -- and will do so again in a few days, Nationals manager Dave Martinez said. "If everything goes well, he's pretty close," Martinez said. DeJong was hit by a 92.7 mph pitch from Pittsburgh's Mitch Keller on April 15, fracturing his nose, orbital and orbital floor.

4/29/25 Washington Nationals' Paul DeJong Ruled Out 2 Months Following Nose Surgery. Veteran infielder Paul DeJong, who got in in the face by a pitch on April 15, is unlikely to rejoin the Washington Nationals' lineup anytime soon. DeJong suffered a broken nose and a gash under his left eye as a result of the scary play against the Pittsburgh Pirates. It took a few weeks before the swelling went down, meaning he couldn't undergo sinus, orbital plate and nose surgery until Monday. As reported by USA Today's Bob Nightengale, DeJong won't be able to play again for at least two more months.

The operation was the result of taking a pitch to the face earlier this month. Now with the Washington Nationals, DeJong was in Pittsburgh playing the Pirates on April 15, Jackie Robinson Day, and in the top of the sixth inning with the Nats leading 1-0, Pirates pitcher Mitch Keller came inside and hit DeJong in the face near his left eye and nose.
