8/13/25 Were Cubs Fated To Fail At MLB Trade Deadline For Starting Pitching?. The Chicago Cubs made one move for a starting pitcher at the MLB trade deadline and two innings into his first game Michael Soroka ended up with a right shoulder injury that won't allow him to play catch until the team returns to Chicago next week. It's possible the Cubs were just fated to miss on a starting pitcher at the trade deadline unless they wanted to spend the prospect capital to deal for a pitcher like Mitch Keller or Sandy Alcantara. It turns out that another potential target went to the injured list on Monday.

8/03/25 Pirates' Mitch Keller looks for run support; Rockies seek elusive home sweep. Mitch Keller's name frequently popped up in trade rumors ahead of the deadline on Thursday, but the veteran right-hander stayed with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Now, Keller (4-10, 3.69 ERA) can focus on the rest of the season, starting Sunday afternoon when he takes the mound in the series finale against the Colorado Rockies in Denver. Rookie right-hander Bradley Blalock (1-2, 7.09) will start for Colorado, which has a chance to sweep its first home series of the year. The Rockies might be without Seth Halvorsen for the rest of the season after the right-handed closer left Saturday's game in the ninth with an injury to his pitching elbow.

8/01/25 What Grades Did Cubs Get For Their Four Trade Deadline Acquisitions?. It's hard to not be disappointed with the Chicago Cubs and their trade deadline results. For weeks, there were rumors about how they were searching for ways to land some high-profile players, with adding a starting pitcher who has multiple years of club control remaining being their top priority. Mitch Keller, MacKenzie Gore, Sandy Alcantara, Edward Cabrera and others were all floated as possibilities, and heading into the deadline, it seemed like they were going to get one of them based on the strength of their farm system and their need for an impact starter. The Cubs did make four moves, however, acquiring right-handed pitchers Michael Soroka and Andrew Kittredge, left-handed pitcher Taylor Rogers and utility man Willi Castro.

7/31/25 Pirates Very Unlikely to Trade Starting Pitcher. The Pittsburgh Pirates have made some trades and will make more ahead of the deadline on July 31, but one of their top assets will likely not move. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that the Pirates are likely keeping right-handed starting pitcher Mitch Keller, outside of a big change before the trade deadline. Rosenthal also wrote that the Pirates might not think they can find someone that will replicate his performance in 2025 and/or that teams aren't offering what the Pirates are looking for, which would likely be an MLB-ready bat, as the team ranks amongst the worst for most hitting metrics.
